Mokena Appoints New Finance Director

MOKENA, IL — The Mokena Village Board of Trustees unanimously voted at its Monday meeting to approve the appointment of Sharon Dangles as finance director to replace Barbara Damron, who is retiring in January.

Damron, a lifelong Mokena resident, has been employed by the Village since 1985, according to Village documents.

Dangles, of New Lenox, has a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Governors State University, according to Village documents. She previously worked for the Village of Oak Brook and the Homewood-Flossmoor Park District.

Dangles will start her new role effective Nov. 8, which will give her time to work alongside Damron before her retirement. Dangles will earn $137,564 a year, according to Village documents.

Round It Up

A brief recap of other items discussed at Monday’s Village Board of Trustees meeting:

  • Residents of the Whisper Creek subdivision during public comments asked board members for guidance in getting attention to excessive noise and disturbances in the area. Mokena Mayor Frank Fleischer asked Mokena Police Interim Chief Brian Benton to help them.
  • The board unanimously approved the appointment of Erin Minh as a part-time crossing guard.
  • The board reminded residents that trick-or-treating hours are from 1-5 p.m. Oct. 31. Residents who do not want to participate in trick-or-treating can pick up “No Tricks-Or-Treats” signs at Village Hall, 11004 Carpenter St., or print them online from the Village of Mokena website.
