My choices for Bethel finance board

On Nov. 2, I encourage Bethel voters to re-elect Chairman Bob Manfreda, Vice Chairman Robert Palmer, and board members Dalene Foster and Karen Foster (no relation) to the Board of Finance.

This team of candidates has brought results and saved Bethel taxpayers money. They have reduced Bethel’s reliance on expensive short-term “credit card” debt and saved the town hundreds of thousands of dollars in interest payments. They are now saving money — instead of borrowing it at high rates — for important recurring capital needs such as fire equipment, police cars, and snowplows. They secured the lowest interest rates in Connecticut for infrastructure projects such as the Johnson and Rockwell School renovations.

They did all this while limiting tax increases to less than the rate of inflation.

These candidates are dedicated to navigating the financial uncertainty brought about by the pandemic while maintaining Bethel’s AAA rating and high quality of life. They are experienced incumbents whose leadership has helped keep Bethel the growing, thriving town that it is.

Their fiscally responsible, forward-thinking leadership has earned my trust. Please join with me on Nov. 2nd and vote for row A.
